Sarah Tolmie's reading of her new book, "The Stone Boatmen"

Check out Sarah Tolmie's new book at her reading this Thursday. There is free coffee and donuts. This is a unique opportunity to listen to an author and ask questions of a Medievalist genius who regularly teaches Chaucer, Creative Writing, and others (I was lucky enough to have her for ENGL 200A, B, and Creative Writing!).

Meeting called to order at 2:45 pm by president Janessa M.

1)Codex
  • We have a Google doc of submissions which we need to begin editing
  • We should advertise it as a compilation of university students and their work in the leaflet
  • We need to get the image from Curtis for the online PDF
2)Litball
  • We are going to need to cancel the event due to low interest/response
  • Could we throw some sort of EOT event instead?
  • We could make a reservation for about 25 people
  • We would like to keep the same night but perhaps begin the event earlier
  • Officially "English Goes to Bomber"
Meeting adjourned at 3:35 pm by the president.

Minutes Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Minutes for the English Society meeting taking place on Tuesday, March 18th, 2014.
Members present : Sai K, Hillary U, Amanda W
Meeting called to order at 2:45 pm by Secretary Hillary U.

1) Book Club
  • We do not have time to promote this, so we are cancelling the event

2) Codex
  • The cost to print is too high for the number of submissions we have
  • Profs have still not submitted student work
  • We will make an on-line version of the Codex which Emily H. can email out, using Curtis's cover
  • We could make a single page flyer of excerpts with links to the PDF on it

3) Litball
  • Litball actually requires an attendance of at least 100 people
  • We need a new marketing strategy for large events such as this
  • Advertise it as more of an EOT last bash party, and less of an event
  • Focus on the free things
  • We made some flyers, to be put up in the SLC with permission of Feds, and left around campus

Meeting adjourned at 3:40 pm.
